A Formalism for Coupled Design / Learning Activities
This paper presents a formalism to represent the inextricable link that exists between design and learning. It provides an approach to study and analyse the complex relationships that may exist between design and learning. It suggests that design and learning are linked at the knowledge level (epistemic link), in a temporal manner and in a purposeful manner through the design and learning goals.
متن کاملA Formalism for the Composition of Loosely Coupled Robot Behaviors
We address the problem of controlling large distributed robotic systems such as factories. We introduce tools which help us compose local, hybrid control programs for a class of distributed robotic systems, assuming a palette of controller for individual tasks is already constructed. These tools, which combine backchaining behaviors with Petri Nets, expand on successful work in sequential compo...
متن کاملCoupled-wave formalism for optical waveguiding by transverse Bragg reflection.
A formalism is presented for optical waveguiding by means of Bragg reflection. The theory provides analytic expressions for field modal profiles, dispersion, and attenuation. Waveguiding in line defects of photonic bandgap crystals, a special case of the theory, is used as an example. Quantized allowed widths of the guiding channel are predicted.
متن کاملComplex Scaled Spectrum Completeness for Coupled Channels
The Complex Scaling Method (CSM) provides scattering wave functions which regularize resonances and suggest a resolution of the identity in terms of such resonances, completed by the bound states and a smoothed continuum. But, in the case of inelastic scattering with many channels, the existence of such a resolution under complex scaling is still debated. Taking advantage of results obtained ea...
متن کاملContinuum contact models for coupled adhesion and friction
We develop two new continuum contact models for coupled adhesion and friction, and discuss them in the context of existing models proposed in the literature. Our new models are able to describe sliding friction even under tensile normal forces, which seems reasonable for certain adhesion mechanisms. In contrast, existing continuum models for combined adhesion and friction typically include slid...
